They should be discarded as soon as any of these signs are spotted. Smelling off, displaying patches of mold on the skin, or being too soft are all signs of rotten tangerines. I bought some at local grocery store because I confused them with clementines and they are horrible! The skin is really hard to peel like this article said, at least every piece contains a seed, and it's so chewy you have to literally spit it out after "sucking" the little juice out! Avoid these and just stick to clementines! They should be bigger than clementines and are delicious. A small price to pay for fruit nirvana! I just bought a 40lb case! ![]() They do have quite a few seeds but I just spit them out. ![]() They are the sweetest and juiciest I have ever had. I only started buying them a few months ago but they are now my favorite orange or tangerine. I just cut into slices and juice them in my mouth. Honey tangerines are absolutely sublime! I don't bother peeling them. Also, I've noticed that the ones I bought lately have far fewer seeds. Really they're not that hard to peel, much easier than other oranges. ![]() I agree that anan64518 had a bad one, probably old and dried from his description. I slice them and then cut away the seeds before eating them. Honey tangerines are so sweet and juicy, way better then clementines. And would like to know will planting the seed of a "honey tangerine" produce a viable fruit given time? I really enjoyed the honey tangerines we got from the store today. as I peeled it I was reading the article and began eating it, it was just as described! It is so good and juicy with just a touch of tang at the end. Just bought some and looked up the name and found this site. I found out today they're grown in Riverside CA too.

I was greeted by the woman seated at the front desk immediately & brought into an exam room as soon as I checked in, since there were no other patients in the waiting area at the time I arrived, which I was very grateful for. 6:00 pm for relief from severe itching, sneezing & other debilitating symptoms caused by my seasonal allergies. I went to the Glendora, CA Urgent Care location on 5/14/21 at approx. Odell’s bedside manner SUCKS and I’m tired of the covid vaccine bullies. At the end of the day I was doing what my employer had asked me to do. I AM NOT ANTIVAX!! I believe you should research anything you put into your body. No matter your stance on the vaccine, the way I was treated today was completely uncalled for. As I said before, it was per my employers request. After his “visit” with me I over heard him in the hallway fussing with the nurse saying he didn’t understand why I was getting an antibody test. I NEVER got the chance to express my concerns about the vaccine or to ask any questions. I tried to explain to him that I hadn’t been exposed, but he cut me off saying it didn’t matter. He said a covid antibody test wasn’t going to tell us anything. Odell seemed like he was almost pissed off at the fact that I was even there. As should anyone who plans on getting it. I had explained to the nurse that I was still fearful of the covid vaccine but that I was still doing some research, which she encouraged me to do. Odell, I believe that’s his name, he was very rude and condescending towards me. The nurse who did my test was very nice and professional. I came in today for a covid antibody test per my employers request. Everyone - the volunteers, doctors, nurses, and schedulers - were friendly, efficient, and focused on giving terrific service to those being vaccinated. Within 20 minutes after I parked in the garage I was already vaccinated with dose 1, and was scheduled for for my second dose. Though I was 30 minutes early they put me in line immediately (again masked and distanced) - there was no wait. At the check-in desk I had to produce my proof of eligibility and photo ID. Volunteers were posted from the garage to the vaccination site to make sure no one got lost. On Thursday I arrived about an hour early before my scheduled appointment. By the time I got my vaccination scheduled Tuesday night, all other time slots had been taken, so you have to act quickly. I heard about it late that afternoon and was able to get on-line and schedule my first dose for Thursday evening at the Swedish vaccination site on the Seattle University campus. Swedish got a new vaccine shipment on Tuesday 2/2/21. But once I got the appointment with Swedish it all went very quickly and efficiently. Like everyone else, I had been trying to get an appointment for weeks. It was difficult getting an appointment for my first dose of the Covid vaccine with any facility. Just the opposite! I’m not a regular patient of theirs, so I didn’t know what to expect. None of that happened at the Swedish vaccination site. I had heard lots of horror stories about other vaccination providers about delays, cancellations, poor service, etc. (I guess to say we called you )Īmazingly great experience. This is not the same care I received the first time there.īy the way the secretary calls my phone after I was taken back. another elderly man said he isn’t waiting inside and said he would be in his car to text him. the secretary told me they are the ones to wait outside in car but everyone else stays in waiting room. she was told to wait in the car just like we should have all done. a patient came in during this time to get a covid vaccine so I was exposed to this. I waited total 2hrs and 45 minutes total.as I was leaving the secretary who was sitting on the right side facing the right window yells thanks for waiting!! Really. This was totally different than my first visit. So glad I got my 2nd vaccine at 2:15 stayed until 2:30 and was told by the nurse to just leave if no reactions. The patient next to me had an appointment for 12:30 and she was already in. At (2:15) I went back in to see what was up and a lot of whispering behind the counter I was told to go back and they would give my 2nd covid vaccine. It won’t be ultra-efficient like a true glycol setup but it would be better than ice water. The solution won’t freeze in the freezer and will deliver colder liquid through your cooling coil-and most importantly the liquid will STAY cool. A 50-50 mix of glycol and water has a freezing point of -35☏. If you have an extra mini fridge with a freezer on hand you could drill holes in it for the tubing to pass through and create a closed-loop glycol system with a glycol reservoir inside. Other Ways to Keep The Water Supply Cold? Anvil makes a carboy version of the cooling system as well. 7 stopper so you will need a carboy with a no 7. Can I Use The Cooling System in A Glass Carboy? I would absolutely recommend this fermenter for anyone looking to get started with more control over their fermenting environment. Sure you can improvise with draping your fermenter with a cold or frozen towel or keep your fermenter in the bathtub but you certainly won’t get this level of automated control. Overall this setup is one of the more budget-friendly solutions to control fermentation temps precisely. You could absolutely push this fermenter colder into the 50’s assuming you keep replenishing the cold water supply. The newly supplied thermostat with the system also works just as well. I use an Inkbird digital temperature controller to easily ferment in the 64☏-68☏ range. The cooling system has been critical in maintaining my fermentation temps down to the degree. You will need to swap out fresh ice or ice packs daily to ensure your water supply remains cold. The water often returns to room temp every 6-8 hours and renders your cooling efforts useless. This is absolutely the most inefficient part of the entire process. ![]() You’ll need a cooler full of ice water as the water supply for the cooling system. Anvil fermenter with water supply below in cooler. If the temperature of the vessel raises even 1 degree (you can change the variance on the controller), it will activate the pump and cycle cold water (from a cooler) through the coils, bringing down the temp pretty quickly. You set your desired fermentation temp on the controller and plug the supplied pump into the controller. The digital thermometer probe fits into the thermowell and will give you a digital temp reading at the very center of the fermenter. Cooling System – 7.5 Gallon Bucket Fermentor The thermowell sits about halfway down the bucket and the coils reach a few inches from the bottom of the vessel. The coils and thermowell pass through the stopper and extend into the fermenter. The cooling system comes with a pump, neoprene jacket, Anvil temp controller, long stainless steel cooling coil, a thermowell, and a special no. You can also buy this fermenter in a smaller 4-gallon version as well. It’s worth noting that the Anvil fermenter and the cooling system are both sold separately. This is night and day over the standard bucket spigot. You can also adjust it to pull from any direction if you’d rather leave the last inch or so of beer in the fermenter. Lastly, the racking arm can be rotated by turning the outside spigot left or right. I found this handy for filling my hydrometer tube for gravity readings! No need to open the lid and expose your beer. The spigot is also really handy for quick samples or transfers to a keg without the need for an auto-siphon. ![]() The domed bottom is great for helping to separate the trub from the racking arm, giving you cleaner draining ability with less risk of clogging or transferring junk. I really like this feature as it is easy to pop open for any additions without shaking the entire fermenter. The fermenter lid clamps on with 4 clips ensuring a nice tight seal. ![]() The higher the Reynolds number, the more likely everything will go along swimmingly.Īt least two researchers have directly investigated how people swim in a low Reynolds number environment. One can predict how easily an object or organism will move through a particular medium by calculating the relevant Reynolds number, which in this case takes into account the viscosity and density of the fluid as well as the velocity and size of the object or organism. Physics also explains why swimming in molasses is near impossible. In 1919 the dense wall of syrup surging from its collapsed tank initially moved fast enough to sweep people up and demolish buildings, only to settle into a more gelatinous state that kept people trapped. Because of this physical property, a wave of molasses is even more devastating than a typical tsunami. When you squeeze or smack the bottle, however, applying stress and increasing the shear rate, the fluids suddenly flow. In a stationary bottle, these fluids are thick and goopy and do not shift much if you tilt the container this way and that. Consider non-Newtonian fluids such as toothpaste, ketchup and whipped cream. Molasses is a non-Newtonian fluid, which means that its viscosity depends on the forces applied to it, as measured by shear rate. "The substance itself gives the entire event an unusual, whimsical quality," wrote Stephen Puleo in his book Dark Tide, which recounts the story of McManus and many others who witnessed the calamity.Ī wave of molasses does not behave like a wave of water. The courts also faulted the United States Industrial Alcohol Co., which owned the tank, for ignoring numerous signs of the structure's instability over the years, such as frequent leaks. The storage tank had been filled to near capacity on July 13 and the molasses had likely fermented, producing carbon dioxide that raised the pressure inside the cylinder. A long ensuing legal battle revealed several possible reasons for the flood. ![]() The other half died from injuries and infections in the following weeks. About half the victims were crushed by the wave or by debris or drowned in the molasses the day of the incident. Ultimately, the disaster killed 21 people and injured another 150. People, horses and dogs caught in the mess struggled to escape, only sinking further. From there, it thinned out into a coating one half to one meter deep. A chest-deep river of molasses stretched from the base of the tank about 90 meters into the streets. The deluge crushed freight cars, tore Engine 31 firehouse from its foundation and, when it reached an elevated railway on Atlantic Avenue, nearly lifted a train right off the tracks. All that thick syrup ripped apart the cylindrical tank that once held it, throwing slivers of steel and large rivets in all directions. ![]() More than 7.5 million liters of molasses surged through Boston's North End at around 55 kilometers per hour in a wave about 7.5 meters high and 50 meters wide at its peak. "Send all available rescue vehicles and personnel immediately," he yelled, "there's a wave of molasses coming down Commercial Street!" Temporarily stunned, McManus turned back to the call box. He turned to see a five-story-high metal tank split open, releasing a massive wall of dark amber fluid. Moments later he heard a sound like machine guns and an awful grating. ![]() On January 15, 1919-an unusually warm winter day in Boston-patrolman Frank McManus picked up a call box on Commercial Street, contacted his precinct station and began his daily report. ![]() This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. What’s the best piece of writing advice anyone ever gave you? I often think of my first stage of writing as “whacking it all down on the page,” throwing down a shapeless lump and then crafting it into something with a coherent narrative that people want to keep reading. I’m thinking of someone whacking a huge, shapeless lump of clay onto a pottery wheel and slowly sculpting it into a vase, a pot, a bowl, or something with a recognizable and attractive shape. I’ve been a freelance journalist for over a decade now, and while it’s certainly not the most lucrative or secure career path, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do something I find so fulfilling. But I find that it’s only in the process of actually getting words down on a page that I can start to figure out the logical puzzle of how precisely to sequence different pieces of information in the most compelling way. That’s not to say that it’s not important to digest your material and think about what to say before you write – of course, that’s a crucial part of the process, too, and I usually write some kind of plan before embarking on a draft. Once you have something down on paper, even if it’s terrible (and some of my very rough drafts – seen only by myself – are truly terrible) then you have something to work from, to sculpt and to craft.
